“I feel privileged to be part of St Christopher’s work”
Natalie works with our West Midlands fostering team providing additional support to our foster carers, children and young people. She talks about why St Christopher’s was the right workplace for her.
I’m a Support Worker at St Christopher’s and have been here since December 2016. I previously worked within the Looked After Children team at a Local Authority and my involvement has always been with children who need support.
My role varies from day to day. I do some direct work with the children, group participation and support the placements we have. Recently I organised for a group of young people to take part in a bouldering course, which was paid for through donations – it was really successful, if a bit scary watching them climb to such heights!
I also complete Q Packs and Attachment Style Interviews with our children to understand their functioning and attachment styles so that we can monitor the changes they can make. These are part of the bespoke attachment tools that St Christopher’s uses to work with all children and young people.
A few years ago I became a foster carer so I could contribute further and make more of a difference. It has given me a deeper understanding of my role as I can relate to where the foster carers are coming from when they’re facing challenges.
My passion is to improve outcomes for the children I work with so St Christopher’s fitted perfectly for me. I love their mission and feel privileged to be a part of the work they do and enjoy the diverse opportunities that my role provides.
