Our mission is to create brighter futures for children and young people. We do this by providing fostering, residential and support services where children and young people can feel safe and cared for. We support them to make positive relationships which give them the confidence to succeed.
Jane Poole-Wilson, Chair of St Christopher’s Isle of Man Council, will be stepping down from her role this month as she takes up a position in the Isle of Man Government.
Back in September, Jane was elected as a Member of the House of Keys in Tynwald and was subsequently appointed the Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Justice and Home Affairs.
This new role will overlap with her responsibilities to St Christopher’s, so Jane has therefore decided to stand down as Chair and Trustee from 13 January 2022 to avoid any possible conflicts of interest.
The search for a new Chair is underway and in the meantime, Caroline Johnson has very kindly agreed to act as interim Chair for St Christopher’s Isle of Man Council.
Jane joined Council on July 2016 and became Chair in December 2018. During Jane’s time as Chair, St Christopher’s has successfully retained contracts to provide services for children and young people on the Isle of Man, as well opening a Support Into Employment service for care leavers and implementing a new youth justice worker in the community.
Reflecting on her time with St Christopher’s, Jane said: “It has been a real privilege to have been part of St Christopher’s. Meeting our young people has given such insight into the challenges they face and how best to meet their needs. And the staff of St Christopher’s who provide unconditional love, care and support are an inspiration – their dedication and commitment is outstanding.”

As well as recruiting a replacement for Jane, a search is underway to find a successor for Bert O’Donoghue as Chair of the Group Council. Bert will have served nine years as a Trustee in September 2022 and good governance practice is that Trustees should only serve a maximum of nine years.
