“St Christopher’s provides so many opportunities”

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to work in a children’s home?

Najma has developed her experience and knowledge working in residential children’s care. Working with St Christopher’s, she has built up her confidence to create brighter futures for young people. Read her experiences below.

“A deputy manager vacancy came up within my service at a time when I was ready for a new challenge. Providing consistency and support for the young people and staff in the home has always been my priority.

I started at St Christopher’s as a children’s residential worker in the same children’s home that I work in now, so I already have existing positive relationships with the other staff and, of course, the young people. They have all been supportive as I have progressed to team leader and now deputy manager, which has helped me settle in.

So far there haven’t been any challenges that I could not handle. Every day is a different day and I’m always ready. There are more responsibilities than at team leader level – but that’s what I wanted, so bring it on!

With a great manager and staff team I have had a good support network to guide me along the way. I am sure there’s stuff I don’t yet know but I’m confident that I will be able to manage it well when it crops up.

St Christopher’s provides so many opportunities for staff and young people so don’t be scared to challenge yourself.”
