Why did you want to work at St Christopher’s?

I previously worked in jobcentres supporting care experienced people back into employment and have seen what impact a good support system can make on a person’s future. I liked the fact that St Christopher’s were there every step of the way and that the young people are seen as individuals, encouraged to participate in their own journey as well as the “we say it’s okay” approach to provide valuable contributions. This way of collaborative working is really important to me and something I aspire to with my corporate partners.

What do you enjoy about your job?

As part of my role I meet a variety of people and work with lots of different stakeholders. I enjoy building meaningful relationships and developing those over time. I also really enjoy the ability to be creative with our partners and finding innovative ways of working together that solves a challenge we both face.

What other development opportunities have you had?

I joined the fundraising team recently and was lucky enough to volunteer at the new home in London. It was insightful talking to other St Christopher’s staff and meeting one of our Trustees and their team, who supported on the day. It really helped me better understand how we can shape our volunteering opportunities in future but also what some of their challenges may be and working to solve those through corporate fundraising.

What is next in your career?

Currently my focus is just to learn as much as possible. I like experiencing new things and challenging myself and am looking to really grow the corporate fundraising arm at St Christopher’s. Short term I’d love to build up a sustainable bank of corporate supporters that will help us more long term and over time look at securing campaigns and Charity of the Year partnerships. What would you say to someone interested/ looking to join the profession?

Corporate Fundraising is great for someone who would like to work in the charity sector, but still wants to be involved in the corporate world. Fundraising is a really good mix of building relationships, cross-team collaboration, being creative and getting stuck in with all sorts of projects where it’s most needed.
